CNN — In a secret ceremony to be held at the Washington offices of the United States Chamber of Commerce, lobbyist Grover Norquist plans to administer an anti-tax “blood oath” to Republican presidential candidates Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich, CNN has learned.
“Grover simply doesn’t trust these guys not to raise taxes on the rich,” said a source close to Norquist. “Can you blame him? Romney and Gingrich are human boomerangs. They’ve both flip-flopped more times than Mary Lou Retton. Grover wants to get them in a room with some deadly serious people and make a deadly serious point.”
Also attending the ceremony will be House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
“Grover can’t afford to let anybody get wobbly on taxes next year,” said the source. “There’s too much money at stake.”
Romney, through a spokesman, told CNN he never heard of Grover Norquist. Gingrich could not be reached for comment.
