REUTERS — At a meeting with Secret Service agents today, rock musician Ted Nugent clarified his remark that he “will either be dead or in jail” next year if Barack Obama is reelected. Some had interpreted the comment, made before a group at the National Rife Association, as a possible threat against the president.
“Ted Nugent does not believe in shooting at anything which might shoot back,” said Howard Feltersnatch, attorney for Mr. Nugent, at a press conference in Detroit. “He proved that in 1967, when he defecated in his underpants in order to flunk his army physical and avoid going to Vietnam. Defenseless furry animals? Yes. He’ll blow them to kingdom come. Creatures with trigger fingers? Not a chance.”
Mr. Feltersnatch explained that his client’s words had been taken out of context.
“Ted Nugent is an entertainer,” he said. “He has to give his fans what they want. Believe me, Ted was the sanest person in the room that day. That may be a little scary, but it’s reality.”
Mr. Nugent has endorsed Mitt Romney for president. Romney has not ruled out nominating the Detroit rocker to head up the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
