Cory Booker’s off-message, self-serving defense of Mitt Romney and Bain Capital on Meet The Press yesterday was actually a good thing for the Obama campaign. On Hardball tonight, Chris Matthews pointed out that the president’s team needs to vet its surrogates a lot more closely. Which it now will. Oh, boy will it. As a diehard Hillary Clinton supporter in 2008, I know how tough Barack Obama and David Axelrod are. They’re killers.
Better such a screw-up in May, when nobody is paying attention, than in September, when everybody is. Ultimately, Mitt Romney’s tenure at Bain Capital will prove to be the gift that keeps on giving.
Book it.
