Actually, a similar thing happened to me last week. I walked up to my boss and said, “You’re an asshole.” My boss said, “I’m an asshole? Well, you’re fired.” I said, “Sorry, boss. I misspoke.” My boss said, “That”s nice. Do you have anything else to say before I have you escorted from the building?” I said, “I stand by my statement that I misspoke, and I apologize.” But I’m still fired.
