The Dialogue on Health Care: A Study in Political Incompetence

Generic Republican: We oppose Obamacare. It’s socialism.

Generic Democrat: We just want a good bill. We welcome all ideas.

GR: Obama wants to stand between you and your doctor. We oppose that.

GD: Rome wasn’t built in a day. We have to let the process work itself out.

GR: Democrat health care will raise everybody’s taxes by $3000 per family. We oppose that.

GD: Senator Baucus is working with Republicans to fashion a bipartisan bill.

GR: Government-run health care means you won’t be able to keep the insurance you currently have. The public option is a non-starter.

GD: Everything is negotiable, as long as our principles are respected.

GR: The Democrat plan is too expensive. The CBO says so.

GD: Senator Baucus is exploring a number of bipartisan ways to achieve reform.

GR: The stimulus bill has already put an enormous burden on our children and grandchildren. We oppose further spending.

GD: We want everyone to have a seat at the table.

GR: Government-run health care means you have to wait six months to have an operation. Look at Canada!

GD: The president will not sign a bill that doesn’t incorporate his principles.

GR: The Democrat plan is government-run health care which will destroy the current system that people like. We oppose Obamacare.

GD: The president hopes to have a bill on his desk by August.

And you wonder why health care reform is in trouble!
