The Return of the War Room

Barack Obama hit it out of the park last night, but I hope he doesn’t take his own words very seriously.  He succeeded in knocking the Republicans and their Blue Dog fellow travelers back on their heels.  Now he needs to keep them there.

Obama was right when he said the time for “bickering” was over — but that’s only because his speech so effectively raised the stakes on health care that the opposition is going to respond with a sledgehammer.  He’d better prepare for an all-out war with the insurance lobby and its errand boys in Congress.

The first skirmish is here already, with regard to South Carolina’s newest national embarrasment, Rep. Joe Wilson, the Biggest Public Asshole (Maybe Ever) In The House.  Wilson needs to be dragged kicking and screaming through the media buzzsaw for a few news cycles, or at least until John Boehner is forced to disown him.  That’s sure to drive the Republican Party’s wingnut foot soldiers — the already enraged dittoheads and Beckazoids — even further into the bowels of Crazy Town, from whence they’ll emerge to offend decent people anew.

Many more battles lie ahead, and Obama needs to try and win every last one of them.  Proactively.
