Wingnuts And “Obamacare”: Obsessed With The Middleman

Laura Ingraham, Sean Hannity and rest of the gang are mobilizing their listeners to defeat health care reform.  The charitable thing to say is simply, “Forgive them, for they know not what they do.”  Wingnut brainpans melted down for good last summer at the town hall hatefests.  They’ve been on an emotional thrill ride ever since.

But one thing I’ve always found particularly nonsensical is their unshakable preference for “private” over “public” insurance.  Hey, guys — it’s not like the claims agents at Aetna are doctors and nurses.  They’re paper pushers!  What’s more, they work for an entity whose business model requires that they deny medical care to as many customers as possible.  Call me crazy, but I don’t think that makes them freedom fighters.  They’re bureaucrats implementing a corporate agenda that just might get me killed.

But then, I’m not intimately familiar with all the lines and arrows on Glenn Beck’s “Chalkboard of Conspiracy”.

  1. Ahem, as one of the people you seem to be trying to demonize, I take exception with your description.

What we are trying to do is stop a downward slide of our country as exacerbated by the President’s agenda. I remember some Democrats complaining about Bush’s deficit spending, and at the time I agree with them. But today, after just 1 year, President Obama has spent more that Bush did in 8 years. The product? No jobs.

If there ever was a situation of complete self-absorption it is by the Left today as they squander their children’s future in debt. And now we are talking about a program that will cost trillions even as Medicare and Social Security are about to go broke. Are you serious?

Respectfully, I ask you to actually go to a tea party an listen. Don’t just watch Keith Olbermann spew his diatribe of falsities. We actually invited Keith to the Texas Tea Party to set him straight, but he declined. I guess it is easy to shout “Tea Bagger!” just like it was easy for racists to shout the N word. I actually pity the guy, his ratings are below reruns of Greta Van Susteren at 3 am in the morning.

    • There are certainly tea partiers out there — such as yourself –who are thoughtful. I just think the majority of them are in the grip of an anti-government hysteria that’s . . . unhelpful.

“Obamacare” is, in fact, a very moderate plan akin to what Republicans proposed (as an alternative to “Hillarycare” — do you see a rhetorical pattern here?) in the nineties. But the politics are the same. Obstruction now, obstruction forever!

I only WISH we were getting a “government takeover” of the health care system. It would be a lot more efficient and a lot cheaper. But I’ll take what I can get now.
