Bright Lights, Big City: On Kit Bond Falling Asleep During A Senate Briefing On Terrorism (Limerick)

One person who was in the room for Tuesday’s intelligence briefing said Bond appeared to fall asleep for 10 to 15 minutes, but that he and other senators had spirited exchanges with the briefers. . . .Sen. Orrin Hatch (R., Utah) also weighed in, saying he sat beside Bond during the briefing, and “I can tell you he was awake.”  Hatch said that sometimes the lights in the room are so bright “you have to rest your eyes for a bit; you get light burn.”  — The Wall Street Journal

When terrorists take their next shot,
It’s Bond who’ll unravel their plot.
Though he’s battle-tested,
We need him well-rested,
So somebody: Bring Bond a cot!

Yeah, I know.  Big buildup, small payoff.  I really just wanted an excuse to post Orrin Hatch’s lame comment about senators getting “light burn”.  It sounds ridiculous to me.  Do they have to close their eyes for fifteen minutes to get relief?

“Give me a break, guys!  He was AWAKE, I tell you!” — Orrin Hatch
