Greed Without Limits

Poor man wanna be rich
Rich man wanna be king
The king ain’t satisfied
Till he rules everything
— Bruce Springsteen, “Badlands”

Sigmund Freud asked, “What do women want?”  I ask, “What do Republicans want?”  The answer is ugly.

Now understand that when I talk about “Republicans”, I’m not referring to the decent Rotary Club guys across the street.  Such men, to the Mitch McConnells and Karl Roves of the world, are nothing more than suckers — gullible voting units to be duped and swindled biennially.  There’s one born every minute.

The Republican political elite and corporate America are completely symbiotic.  One exists to serve the other.  That which we call “Republican politics” is merely theater for the media.

There’s an idea floating around in conspiratorially-minded progressive circles which goes something like this: Corporations — now flush with cash — are holding back on hiring additional workers because they want to see Republicans back in power.  I tend to agree.

A permanent Republican majority means endless deficits, a withering away of the social safety net, regressive tax policies — and, ultimately, the destruction of the middle class.  In the long run, this spells doom for civil society.  But the money men don’t care.  They want it all — now.

And why shouldn’t they?  Has anyone lately accused American business executives of thinking too far ahead?

  1. I have been visiting your blog for a few days now and I like what I see. It’s good to see other people blogging for the Democrats over the GOP. The GOP have been spreading lies to tear down Obama. Check out my posts about US politics and link my blog to yours:

  2. Thank goodness for people like Rick and the many other liberal-left-Democrat-progressive bloggers on WordPress! A bright spot in an otherwise fatiguing, boring, blustery, holier-than-thou media onslaught by right-wing corporate media hacks and whores.
