Obama And The Long War

Dear Mr. President:

You just don’t get it, do you? —

[My] job is to make sure that we have a North Star out there — what is helping the American people live out of their lives?  You know what is giving them more opportunity, what is growing the economy, what is making us more competitive.  And at any given juncture there’re gonna be times where my preferred option, what I’m absolutely positive is right, I can’t get done.  And so then my question is, does it make sense for me to tack a little bit this way, or tack a little bit that way, because I’m keeping my eye on the long term, and the long fight, not my day to day news cycle, but where am I going over the long term? . . .

This is a big, diverse country.  Not everybody agrees with us.  I know that shocks people.  You know, the New York Times editorial page does not permeate across all of America — neither does the Wall Street Journal editorial page. . . .

And so, to my Democratic friends, what I’d suggest is, let’s make sure that we understand this is a long game, this is not a short game.  [Emphasis added]

Wrong, Mr. President.  This isn’t a game.  It’s a war.

Mitch McConnell and John Boehner are the enemy.  Their only mission is to enrich the corporate oligarchy by hollowing out the American middle class.  (If you don’t know this, Mr. President, you’re in the wrong line of work.)

You say you want to provide the country with a “North Star”, but how can that mean anything if you never put up a fight?  There’s nothing wrong with compromise, but it needs to be accompanied by politics.  You’ve got to walk and chew gum at the same time.

Republicans may be a pack of sociopaths, but they sure know how to spread their message.  They’re fighting the long war every day, Mr, PresidentSo far, you have refused to engage.

You correctly point out that not everybody agrees with us.  But why don’t they?  Why are people continually voting against their own interests?  It’s because the Republican propaganda machine operates like a Terminator: It will not stop until its target is dead.

So when are you going to join the fight, Mr. President?

  1. First, I have to say that I am not surprised to hear that you consider someone with a different opinion than your own as an enemy you are at war with. Way to demonstrate the war mongering of the progressives.

“You correctly point out that not everybody agrees with us. But why don’t they?” Maybe because they have real solutions to the real problems in America.

“Why are people continually voting against their own interests?” That surprises me to. But without those people Democrats would get no votes at all.
