“Bipartisanship” (A Very Short Play)

Scene:  Sarasota, Florida.  2019.  Shady Acres Retirement Village.  A couple is sitting down to dinner.

MARTHA: You know, George, this “Friskies Blend For Seniors”™ tastes much better than our regular cat food. It’s delicious.

GEORGE: I agree, Martha. Remember all the money we used to waste on chicken, fish and vegetables? Back when we thought we should enjoy health care and human food?

MARTHA: How selfish we were, George! America was broke. We had to tighten our belts.

GEORGE: We were blinded by our spoiled stomachs, Martha. Thankfully, President Obama, in his bipartisan wisdom, gave us the Paul Ryan Medicare Destruction Act. Now we’re eating more cheaply and more patriotically than we ever thought possible.

MARTHA: That’s because we value bipartisanship in Washington more than we value expensive food that doesn’t come out of a can with a picture of a cat on the side. God bless our bipartisan leaders!

GEORGE: And most of all, Martha — God bless the Nestlé Purina Pet Care Company!

Curtain.
