Huckabee Wimps Out

Democrats, one hopes, are planning to frame the 2012 election as a choice between a party of American values and a party of money-grubbers.  With Ronald Reagan’s brand of sunny optimism nowhere to be found in today’s GOP (it’s hard to keep getting excited about trickle-down economics when it’s been failing for thirty years), Mike Huckabee would have been the Republican candidate best equipped to misrepresent their nasty, dog-eat-dog world view as something uplifting.

Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty and Mitch Daniels — plastic white guys with the empathy of insurance adjusters — will duke it out for the Republican nomination.  Barack Obama must be feeling pretty good today.
