Advantage, Obama?

I’m detecting a significant momentum shift in the debt ceiling showdown, and it’s not just because the Boner is getting really cranky:

House Speaker John Boehner, countering perceptions that there is a growing rift between him and his chief deputy, Eric Cantor, on deficit reduction, told Republicans in a closed-door meeting Tuesday that he  will not allow tax hikes, and blasted the White House for continuing to push  them.

“Am I angry about it? I sure as hell am,” Boehner  said, according to remarks obtained by Fox News.

The testy comments come as bipartisan congressional leaders prepare. . .

And that’s from Fox News!

I think the teabaggers can smell capitulation in the air, and they’re getting ready to roast Boehner on a spit when this thing is over.  And Boehner knows it.

Don’t feel sorry for them, though.  Wingnuts are happiest when they feel victimized by unbelievers in their ranks.

UPDATE: From Think Progress

“I have little question that as long as this president is in the Oval Office, a real solution is unattainable,” [Mitch] McConnell said on the Senate floor.  Yet in the same statement, McConnell also insisted that Republicans will “do the responsible thing and ensure the government doesn’t default on its obligations.”

This is for teabagger consumption.  McConnell wants them to turn their rage on Obama rather than on Republican traitors and appeasers. We tried to get a good deal, but that socialist Kenyan wouldn’t let us!  Good luck with that, Yertle.

UPDATE II: Sean Hannity is in full-blown wingnut meltdown mode today, spouting a hilariously idiotic mélange of standard right-wing slogans, unhinged Obama-bashing, fresh lies about the budget, and ominous-sounding (but, in reality, empty) threats to wavering Republicans.  A very good sign for Democrats.
