Is it too early to conclude that Rick Perry isn’t ready for prime time? Here he is on the campaign trail threatening the nation’s top banker:
Texas Governor Rick Perry, who entered the presidential campaign on Saturday, appeared to suggest a violent response would be warranted should Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke “print more money” between now and the election. Speaking just now in Iowa, Perry said, “If this guy prints more money between now and the election, I dunno what y’all would do to him in Iowa but we would treat him pretty ugly down in Texas. Printing more money to play politics at this particular time in American history is almost treasonous in my opinion.”
Ouch! That’s going to leave a mark, particularly since it comes from a guy who thinks secession is permissible.
Bill Clinton could wing it and stay out of trouble. Rick Perry clearly can’t. In fact, he could learn a thing or two about staying on message from another dumb-ass Texas Republican, George W. Bush. Dubya knew his limitations and never said anything that wasn’t pre-approved by Karl Rove. Governor Goodhair needs to do likewise.
