Digital Racism

I went over to National Review Online today and commented that George Zimmerman is in the process of becoming  a conservative  folk hero. He’s Joe the Plumber with a Kel-Tec PF-9 and a license to kill black kids wearing hoodies.

Well, I think I hit a nerve. The wingnuts went off on me even more than usual.

The internet has created few white supremacists but many casual racists. In the analog era, if you wanted to express your bigotry, you pretty much had to find a person who would listen to you. And most people don’t want to hear that stuff, thank God.

Nowadays there are any number of online communities within which to spout your edgy theories and racial code words. You don’t have to worry about offending the decent people you work with.
